I highly recommend CNN’s upcoming television special, “The Next President: A World Of Challenges.” I had the pleasure this afternoon of being in the audience for the tv taping at GW’s Lisner Auditorium. Former secretaries of state, Albright, Baker, Christopher, Kissinger, and Powell were asked about the advice they would give to the incoming President of the United States.
This event was taped for broadcast on CNN and will premier Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 9 pm. It will also be available online at CNN.com. For the entire written transcript of the presentation, go to this link.
The event was also live-blogged by The GW Hatchet, The George Washington University’s independant student newspaper.

I waited in a very long line yesterday to get a ticket to a roundtable discussion between five former secretaries of state that will take place on September 15 at The George Washington University. Madeleine Albright, James Baker, Warren Christopher, Henry Kissinger, and Colin Powell will assess the foreign policy challenges confronting the next presidential administration. The event will be moderated by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour and Frank Sesno, and will air at a later time on CNN. I am very excited for this panel.
Only in Washington DC would you see over 800 students lining up for several hours to see former secretaries of state!

SolarTaxi
Louis Palmer made a stop yesterday at the campus of The George Washington University in his SolarTaxi, and he even took the university’s president, Steven Knapp, for a ride around the University Yard. Palmer is currently driving this vehicle around the world to stimulate reflection on ways we can change our habits for a better environment.

The SolarTaxi Route
According to the Solartaxi website,
The Solartaxi is an electric vehicle with a five-meter solar trailer covered with 6 square meters of solar cells. The electricity is stored in a newly invented ZEBRA battery, so we can even drive at night, without any sunshine. The solar cells on the trailer produce enough electricity to run the car up to 100 km a day.

I listened to Coldplay’s Viva La Vida album in its entirety as I rode my bike into DC to work today. The Viva La Vida anthem track came on as I was riding through Rosslyn and heading to the Key Bridge. Just like clockwork, the “woah oh oh!” refrain hit as I rode across the bridge. It was awesome! The spires of Georgetown University were straight ahead of me, the Kennedy Center and Washington Monument were off to the right, and the sun was reflecting off of the Potomac River.
It was one of those moments where you just have to thank God for being alive.

I had breakfast this morning with a friend who is involved in a new venture called Renew Strategies. I was really excited by what I heard about the firm. Renew is a for-profit investment strategy firm that connects investors with small to medium size enterprises in Africa. Don’t take my word for it, check out their investment philosophy for yourself.
Renew sees its ideal investor as someone who wants “healthy financial returns coupled with social impact.”
