The MintLife Blog posted this visual guide to charity giving in the US earlier this month.
Here are some of the points that I found interesting:
- Americans give $300 Billion to charity each year, but we give over $400 Billion to Walmart.
- If a tax payer donates $1,000 and pays a 35% tax rate, the donation saves $350 in taxes.
- It would take 3 Frenchmen or 7 Germans or 14 Italians to equal the charitable donations of 1 American.
- When calculated as a percentage of income: Those who earn less than $20,000 become twice as charitable as those who earn $100,000 even though they donate one fourth as much.
