Visual Guide to Charity Giving from The MintLife Blog

The MintLife Blog posted this visual guide to charity giving in the US earlier this month.

Here are some of the points that I found interesting:

  • Americans give $300 Billion to charity each year, but we give over $400 Billion to Walmart
  • If a tax payer donates $1,000 and pays a 35% tax rate, the donation saves $350 in taxes.
  • It would take 3 Frenchmen or 7 Germans or 14 Italians to equal the charitable donations of 1 American.
  • When calculated as a percentage of income: Those who earn less than $20,000 become twice as charitable as those who earn $100,000 even though they donate one fourth as much.
